Last night a friend of mine asked me for names of artists I follow. I thought I'd curate them here for easier reference, for me and for those who are also interested in getting to know more artists for their needed doses of inspiration.

Filipino Artists (Illustration / Watercolor / Acrylic / Mixed Media / Graphic Design)

Filipino Artists (Calligraphy / Hand-Lettering / Type)

Foreign Artists (Illustration / Watercolor / Acrylic / Mixed Media / Graphic Design)
- Gabrielle Rose

Let me know if you have any other artists or pages you'd like to recommend!

Thoughts: When It Rains

12:01 PM Laura Clarissa 0 Comments

We've all heard of the saying "When it rains, it pours."

Oftentimes we say it in context of when something bad happens, or rather when a lot of bad things happen all at once. A series of unfortunate events so to speak.

These "pouring" days happen every so often. Sometimes, events that have been building up for a while coalesce in one day, as if the planets had aligned specifically for all of them to come together and bowl you over.

Sometimes, from out of nowhere, problems and crisis comes pouring in from all sides, like someone had just released the floodgates.

Days like this make me wish for two things:
On a positive note, I wish for the capacity, the strength of mind and body to be able to overcome these challenges. I never feel prepared for such things, but in the process of trying to solve them, I hope I can "become" ready.

On a negative note, I wish I could just disappear and not face the problems. It's incredibly tiring having to be there for everyone, having to fix problems that you didn't even create. I just want to hibernate from the world, even for just a while.

But, being alive on this earth entails that we can't do that. We have to go on, be brave, occasionally take a rest to refresh our spirits, but go on all the same.

When it rains, it pours; bring a bigger umbrella or stay at home

Art: Where do you go to, my lovely?

I recently watched the Wes Anderson short, "Hotel Chevalier". Like other Wes Anderson creations, the film's aesthetic is very distinct, and the dialogue though sparse and punctuated by silences was heavy with content.

Throughout the movie, the song "Where do you go to my lovely" by Peter Sarstedt was playing and it got stuck in my head. It prompted me to draw the following illustration, my own version of Marie Claire and where she goes when she's alone in her bed - the contents of her head.

"But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do."

- Where Do You Go To My Lovely, Peter Sarstedt
